Transforming Knowledge into Action

CCEDR implements a diverse portfolio of programs designed to convert research findings into meaningful action. Each initiative addresses pressing real-world challenges while nurturing innovation, leadership, and sustainable development across communities, schools, youth networks, and businesses.

Understanding Movement in a Changing Climate

Climate change is reshaping patterns of human movement across Ghana and the African continent. Rising temperatures, unpredictable rainfall, drought, flooding, and land degradation are influencing livelihoods and increasing migration pressures in vulnerable regions. CCEDR’s Climate Mobility & Security Research Program examines how environmental stress intersects with economic conditions, social stability, and human security.

Through field surveys, stakeholder interviews, data modeling, and policy analysis, we investigate how climate-induced displacement affects households, communities, and local governance systems. Our research explores both internal migration and cross-border mobility, paying particular attention to youth, women, and farming populations whose livelihoods depend heavily on natural resources.

Beyond data collection, we work to ensure that findings inform national and regional migration policies. By engaging policymakers, local authorities, and development agencies, we translate research insights into recommendations that strengthen protection frameworks, support livelihood diversification, and promote stability in high-risk areas.

Key Activities

  • Household migration surveys in climate-affected regions
  • Risk mapping and vulnerability assessments
  • Stakeholder consultations with district assemblies and traditional leaders
  • Policy briefs and migration governance recommendations
  • Regional knowledge-sharing forums

Outputs

  • Policy reports and evidence briefs
  • Academic publications
  • Migration risk maps
  • Stakeholder engagement workshops

Building Climate Literacy from the Ground Up

Education is a powerful driver of long-term climate resilience. CCEDR’s Education & School Outreach Program equips students and teachers with practical knowledge about climate change, environmental stewardship, and sustainable living. We believe that empowering young minds creates ripple effects that strengthen entire communities.

Through interactive workshops, school-based climate clubs, teacher training sessions, and curriculum support, we help schools integrate sustainability into everyday learning. Our approach combines science-based understanding with practical activities that encourage critical thinking and problem-solving.

We collaborate with educational authorities and school administrators to ensure that climate education aligns with national standards while remaining accessible and engaging for students at all levels. By fostering curiosity and environmental responsibility, we prepare the next generation to lead sustainable development efforts.

COMMUNITY SENSITIZATION & CAPACITY BUILDING

Communities are at the forefront of climate impacts. CCEDR works directly with local leaders, farmer groups, women’s associations, and youth networks to build awareness and strengthen adaptive capacity. Our community sensitization initiatives focus on practical solutions that respond to local environmental and socio-economic realities.

Through town hall meetings, participatory workshops, demonstration projects, and skills training sessions, we provide communities with tools to improve water management, adopt climate-smart agricultural practices, diversify income sources, and reduce environmental degradation.

By prioritising inclusive participation, we ensure that women, youth, and marginalised groups are actively involved in decision-making processes. This inclusive approach enhances ownership, sustainability, and long-term impact.
