ABDUL GANIYU ALHASSAN

Abdul Ganiyu Alhassan is a development practitioner and researcher with over ten years of experience working at the intersection of climate change, human security, migration, and community development. He brings a strong combination of research expertise, field experience, and practical program implementation across Ghana and the wider West African region.

He currently holds a Master of Philosophy in Development Management from University of Business and Integrated Development Studies. His academic background is complemented by specialized training in implementation research and a Bachelor’s degree in Integrated Community Development, reflecting his strong foundation in both theory and practice.

Abdul has worked with a range of international and national organizations, including the World Bank Group, USAID-supported programs, and Navanti Group in the United States. Through these roles, he has contributed to the design, implementation, and evaluation of complex, donor-funded projects focused on climate resilience, social cohesion, and conflict prevention. His work has spanned multiple countries in West Africa, including Ghana, Benin, Côte d’Ivoire, and Togo.

As a Research Manager with Navanti Group, Abdul led and supported major studies on climate change impacts, violent extremism risks, governance, and migration trends. His work has helped generate evidence to inform policy decisions and strengthen community-level interventions. He has also contributed to regional initiatives aimed at reducing vulnerability to conflict and strengthening resilience in border communities.

Earlier in his career, Abdul worked with the Ministry of Food and Agriculture as an Extension Officer, where he supported agricultural development, farmer engagement, and local capacity building. He also has experience in business development and women’s economic empowerment, having worked with private sector organizations to support entrepreneurship and market access.

Abdul is deeply committed to advancing sustainable development, peacebuilding, and social inclusion. He has strong skills in research design, data analysis, stakeholder engagement, and program coordination. He is also an effective facilitator, having led numerous workshops, trainings, and community engagements.

His research and thought leadership have been presented at international platforms, including conferences in Kenya and Germany, with a focus on climate change, pastoralist mobility, and cross-border migration. He has also published work on climate change impacts in Ghana and continues to contribute to discussions on development and resilience in Africa.

At the Centre for Climate, Education, and Development Research (CCEDR), Abdul provides research strategic leadership and direction, working to bridge research, education, and community action. His vision is to build an institution that not only produces high-quality research but also delivers practical solutions that improve lives and strengthen communities.
